When 11-year-old Beatriz McNelly arrived in Vienna from Argentina in 1969, she didn’t speak a word of English. In an area with no Spanish speakers, she relied on the kindness of fellow students who took time from their day to teach her the language. Today, as a successful entrepreneur and founder of the Immigrant Businesswomen Circle, she’s dedicated to helping others achieve their own American dreams.
“The least I can do is pay it forward and help others just like I got helped,” McNelly reflects on her journey from immigrant child to established business leader. Her father brought the family to America seeking a better future, and through hard work and community support, Beatriz has built multiple successful companies while maintaining financial security.
Now, she’s passing the entrepreneurial torch to the next generation, having launched the new business venture “We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym Loudoun” with her daughter Eileen. For Beatriz, this isn’t just about business success—it’s about creating a lasting legacy. “It’s very important for me, for my children and grandchildren, to understand my desires that this continue through our family.”
Her commitment to giving back extends beyond her immediate circle. Through her work with the Community Foundation, McNelly joins other philanthropists in pooling resources to maximize community impact. She recognizes that her success came not just from personal effort, but from the support of others along the way.
At IBWC, we’re honored to celebrate Beatriz McNelly—a leader who embodies the spirit of immigrant entrepreneurship and community service. Her story reminds us that the American dream isn’t just about personal achievement, but about lifting others as we climb.
