When Beatriz McNelly founded the Immigrant Businesswomen Circle, she built it on a simple belief: that women who dare to build something deserve to be seen and celebrated. That spirit showed up in full force this month when Ashburn Magazine featured her latest venture – and it’s one that’s already changing lives in Northern Virginia.

Beatriz, IBWC’s founder and CEO, co-owns “We Rock the Spectrum Loudoun”, an inclusive indoor playground on Red Rum Drive in Ashburn, alongside her daughter Eileen Markis. The gym is part of a national franchise with more than 200 locations across 34 states and eight countries – and the Loudoun location, which opened last October, is quickly becoming a community anchor.
The concept is powerful in its simplicity: a safe, judgment-free space where children with autism, sensory processing disorders, Down syndrome, and other developmental conditions can just be kids. Every piece of equipment is designed with therapeutic purpose – strengthening coordination, motor skills, and sensory processing – but the children don’t know that. They’re just playing.
“We call it playing with a purpose,” Beatriz told Ashburn Magazine.
The gym’s slogan says it all: “Finally a place where you never have to say I’m sorry.” For parents who know the exhaustion of navigating public spaces with a child who has special needs, that slogan isn’t just a tagline. It’s a promise.
Eileen brings deep expertise to the work – she previously taught and ran a summer camp at The Arc of Loudoun, a nonprofit supporting people with disabilities and their families. Beatriz serves on The Arc’s board as treasurer. Together, they’ve created a space that welcomes everyone: verbal and non-verbal children, those in wheelchairs, and siblings without special needs.
The facility offers birthday parties, summer camp sessions, one-on-one respite services, and special education class field trips. There’s even a Calming Room for children who need a quiet reset.
This is what IBWC is all about – immigrant women who build businesses that don’t just generate revenue, but genuinely serve their communities. Beatriz is proof of that every single day.
